Definition of Wayfinding & Description of the Situation

Definition: this project is about the way we find a specific place on campus that is hard to find without directions or asking people for directions. So my group and I need to create some kind of sings and signals to find a certain class rooms, labs, library book stock, food court, hidden buildings…etc. to make it easier for students to get to their destination.

In this situation of navigating my group chose Wescoe as the building and our destination being the Underground, so from the east entrance of Wescoe to the west side of the Underground we analyzed the current wayfinding solution. Not to our surprise there is very little in the way of signage that indicates the Underground, even the other rooms in the maze if a building. Stairs, doors, hallways, classrooms, and multi colored tiling mark the path throughout the building. Odd Landmarks such as plaster casts of old Greek scholars and not so odd; elevators, water fountains, soda machines, and trash/recycling bins. Nodes of the doorway from the stairs to the elevators and the doorway from the outside stairs to two alternate routes through the building. As for Districts there are two class rooms that are similar in exterior appearance.
